B-B-B-Bene And The Jer (UPDATED)

Surely as African slaves were grateful for that all-expenses-paid sea cruise to the Americas centuries years ago.

Surely as provocatively dressed women are asking to be raped.

Surely Pope Benedict XVI, in his recent visit to Brazil, said that the native peoples who occupied that region before the conquistadors arrived were "silently longing" for a new faith to be thrust upon them.

Oh yeah. You know you want it, baby.

Surely, they didn't mind invasion, occupation, subjugation and other words ending with the suffix -ation. Nor did they mind the new diseases that were introduced to them at that time. They were
looking for a new direction in life, after all, and were surely grateful that "civilized" man came across the sea bearing all these gifts. (And, come on, they were asking for it - dancing around half-naked and beating on drums like a bunch of goddamn savages.)

Surely I jest! But, sadly, the pope was serious.

This was not a "nappy-headed hos" moment for the pope, either. This was an expression of centuries-old Western imperialistic hubris and self-righteousness coming from the head of one of the largest faiths in the world. And he should be ashamed. I thought he was out of touch, but man, I had no idea...

During his visit the pope also made sure to offend homosexuals in a country that holds the largest gay pride parade in the world, as well as denounce condom use in a country with a high incidence of AIDS cases.

And he offended hot-blooded Brazilians in general with his calls for chastity and abstinence until marriage. In a country named after a pubic region grooming style he said that? As if!

I say it's time to boycott the pope's advertisers and get him fired.

In other "offensive religious leader" news, the Reverend Jerry Falwell has died aged 73. Some will say that God had decided it was his time to go, but I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say you helped this happen.

PS: I posted a similar comment about Falwell on a few blogs yesterday, and apparently at least one reader didn't recognize that I was quoting Falwell himself from his sick, inappropriate words in response to the 9/11 attacks. And they were inspired to send me the following email missive:

Pete ,just a quick note to let you know that you're a stinking Bigot just like your sweetheart,Jerry Fat-so Falwell!!!(who is now in a very hot place) As a good and decent GAY American Christian and a member of all the organizations you mentioned,I'm proud and happy to have done all I could for Mr.Falwell.(ha-ha-ho-ho)

Ah, the perils of engaging in satire. Think I will go console myself with some plump and delicious Irish infants.

PSS: Above commenter has since re-read my words, and recanted his criticism. It's all good.

I am not real sad that I missed that on the Pope, but it is more proof to add to my blog today on Hate. When did we turn into a nation of hatemongers? Oh, yea, about 1492!

Keep up the good work.

Pete Bogs said...

LLL - indeed, we were founded on it... can you say "Native Americans?" they were different than we were, so they deserved to be conquered?

she said...

different how? you mean the part about rounding up the natives from the other civilizations and sacrificing them on the chacmool?
or the part about merely enslaving others? grrherha bogs europeans didnt corner the market on dark human nature they were just more proficient at expressing it.

libs are always talking about hate but they are the poster children of haters. just visit the DU. its okay to hate haters of anything they support. i see no evidence to suggest libs are anti-hate. it's all a question of application.

still, i wouldnt characterize the USA as a nation of hatemongers. more like a nation of delusional spoiled brats. cheer up kids maybe we'll be conquered and you can finally assuage your western guilt.

if i decide i am not going to carry the burden of 1492 does that make me insensitive to the the end of the Sun King's reign? no!

you guys can always find a direct descendant suffering at the hand of the spanish to give your ill gotten booty back anytime you want

Bush should be impeached.
He is a fucking criminal.
He has no more credibility.
I do not understand why not many people agree with me. How much more proof does anyone need? It is on the news everyday. The whole white house is dirty. Cowards.

People that believe Bush should not be impeached are ignorant or a Bush Hog.

OH, I forgot.

Bomb, device, weapon, explosive, time, tnt, secret, code, missile, dead, satan, zero hour, ground zero, airplane, high jack, Sudan, Iraq.

i am not so sure that we were founded on hate. i don't see the evidence for hate. stupidty and confusion perhaps, hubris, lack of awareness - and the possession of superior weapons yes, but hate? no.

that came later.

and we do not have a monopoly on it.

i think many libs and leftist-leaning folk want is the inclusion of the other side of the story in our national tale. it's not just this glorious Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492, nor the glory of expansion in the West. We did indeed overun and conqueur a sovereign people - and as victors always do - wrote the tale from a narrow perspective. we need to include and be aware of the atrocities the US Government planned and implemented, but that doesn't mean we throw the baby out with the bath water.

no civilization's nor country's history is bloodless, stainless, perfect. and i do not know if ours is necessarily worse or better than any other.

it just is.

and this from a lib.

go figure.

I was speaking of Native Americans in this part of the Americas...

and to be sure, indigenous people weren't all kind and peace-loving... human sacrifice, slavery etc. were all part of their lives... that said, that doesn't give Europeans the moral authority to come in an "improve" them with Christianity and civilization...

I don't think we are nation of hate, but we were founded on it to a degree... the only way we were able to take all this land is it grab it from the locals... we did that by seeing them as less than we were - uncivilized heathens... that's prejudice, and prejudice is hate...

I have no idea what the DU is... but hating that with which you disagree is more of a consterno trait... what lib hate are you talking about?

Does everyone remember the lovely story of the Pilgrims that we were taught in grade school and they came to the New World to escape persecution? To gain religious freedom? And then ran their little settlement like a prison. They wanted the freedom to do it THEIR way, but didn't necessarily want everyone to have that choice.

That is what I see from the neo-cons, do as I do, look as I look, think as I think, and we will all get along. Maybe that isn't hate, but it certainly isn't love and acceptance of others.

Pete Bogs said...

LLL - indeed... escaping intolerance only to practice it themselves... we were founded as much on hypocrisy as we were on hate... we've made improvements since then - you can't just wipe out ethnic groups and take their stuff anymore... but we have a ways to go...

she said...

like i said cheer up. cause in a few decades this will be a hispanic nation. many of the new/old north americans will be direct descendants of indigenous peoples, not metizos. karmic spin around.

you can channel your point of view into real action too. join in with the atzlan reconquista group since the land in dispute was "stolen" in the mexican-american war. i mean instead of just complaining about what a bunch of bastards we are, why not act?

as far as the north american indians you will get no argument they got the rawest deal ever.

the DU is the demoncratic underground bogs i know you know that. HuffPo too. i dont need to make the argument about hatin'. hear it from the babes' own mouths. in short: haters to the left , haters to the right.

the way i look at it you gotta take it an individual at a time. im never gonna call us a nation of haters because i dont find that to be true.

OT florida blog summit, Sunday may 27th @ Julie's Waterfront, a great seafood and beer shack on a bird n gator lake on the southside of orlando. tentative start time 5 pm. i have not heard from Q. we've got mayden comin from NC, kate, me, you, and aunty....what say you LLL? will you join us?
i think aunty is a gator too. common ground!

I appreciate the invitation, I would love to be there! However, I already have plans that weekend, and family in town. I would really like to make the next one. So please don't forget about me.

Pete Bogs said...

she - I didn't say I had any wish to RETURN the lands to native inhabitants... what's done is done! LOL (besides, who else gets to run casinos around here???)

isn't Democratic Underground a band with Lou Reed? ;-)

I, too, asked LLL to attend, but I understand the short notice...

thanks for getting the summit together! I will be there... we'll have to get a hold of Q the mystery man before then...

great post!

It all goes to show the ego of man. The craziest to me are all that overtake in the name of religion! I agree with Bird that its not necessarily 'hate' as much as stupidity and arrogance.

ps I have the date... do you know the place? lmao I think it was Mayden that really solidified things!
