hellpig - did you ever catch the southpark episode about the museum of tolerance? it's a hoot. i was shocked to discover there actually is a real Museum of Tolerance (and colleagues who attended a workshop there said it is almost as bad as the southpark version). yes, sometimes "tolerance" can be taken to an extreme - and thus outlive its usefulness. (hey pig, how are the mariners doing? and bogs - are you following the marlins? ooopss...totally OT!)

sf declared itself a sanctuary long before newsom spoke up this week. You know, SAN FRANCISCO - St. Francis de Assisi (saint of mercy and so forth). the declaration was largely sympbolic.
but there are two, important details which informed newsom's recent statement about sanctury - details which have been largely ignored by folks that love to gawk at the headlines and stay on the surface, rather than exploring the depth of an issue. those details are:
1. in the past year, the feds have conducted raids in sf that have targeted, abused, and terrorized not illegals, but lawful immigrants and naturalized citizens. oh, excuse me - your last name is gonzales - you must be illegal - let me scare the living daylights out of your family and detain you illegally until i discover - oh - what- you're a CITIZEN??? HELL YEAH - San Francisco will not put up or TOLERATE (we're so intolerant here, you know) such abuse of its citizens.
and
2) public employees of San Francisco are too busy with the work of the city and have no business, desire, nor legal right or obligation to help the feds harrass honest citizens and LEGAL aliens.
which is why they are cutting the funding...no more road repair or socialist services for you

i've not seen any reports yet that state James Mosqueda is in the country illegally, nor that his license isn't proper. Can you substantiate that claim? Or are you merely going by the last name? If so, that is similar to the situation which the City of San Francisco and Gavin Newsom wish to combat - the unfair targeting of citizens or legal immigrants based on their last name or physical appearance.
Now, I have read a news report that states Mosqueda has a clean driving recordand that he was driving above the speed limit at the time of the accident. The investigation is ongoing.
But god's punishment? Your comment reminds me of Pat Robertson - I think it was good ol' Pat - who said 9/11 was God punishing the US for it's evil ways.
