Let The "Rape Riots" Begin

According to an Australian imam, rapes happen because women dress provocatively (i.e. they eschew headscarves). He said that was tantamount to leaving meat out for animals, which certainly could not be blamed for tucking in.

The now embattled cleric quickly backtracked and apologized for his comments, but the damage has seemingly already been done.

Well, some of it. Certainly to his reputation. He's already been asked by some to resign.

But that's small potatoes. Women may wish to show clerics such as these, in a more dramatic manner, that their offensive, sexist comments will not be tolerated.

Based on recent world events, it seems it would be appropriate for Aussie women to overturn cars, smash shop windows, torch embassies and maybe even take a few lives in response to these insensitive remarks.

Women from other countries could certainly join in with sympathy riots in their own localities. They should stand united against this kind of ignorance, no?

Come to think of it, men were insulted in these comments, too. “Animals” are we? I’m disgusted by the suggestion, and may well register my anger at the nearest mosque.

Yes, two can play at the “deeply offended and therefore justified in violence” game.

Yeah, that was a lovely article. I have zero respect or tolerance for that kind of shit. They don't deserve it and they don't deserve to participate in civilized society.

But stay tuned for AU and EU are precursors for America,in the UK the other day a man was put on trial for insulting Islam,on the other hand Muslims freely carry signs "Behead the those who insult Islam" or "EU is the cancer and Islam is the cure" and "UK your 9/11 is coming" the worst IMO is the conversion of 500 year old churches being converted to mosques

i'd like to stuff a hijab up the iman's you-know-what...but will refrain from such an action.

the moderate muslim reaction however is heartening. they don't like this iman and they are saying so (do a little internet sleuthing - there are more articles out there that discuss the muslim response in a different light than the rawstory link).

australia, so i'm told, doesn't have protected speech - and some are calling for this guy to be deported or silenced.

i disagree with that. he has a right to speak (at least he would if he were here). let him speak. i suspect the more he speaks, the more moderate muslims will shudder and speak out against him and his views, esepcially moderate muslim women. some already have. and quite eloquently as well.

but just remember, we aren't so far ahead in our thinking. women in this country who are raped still have to combat the sort of "it's her fault" mentality - it's just not as overt and extreme - but it's there.

and think of this - the concept that if a woman wears tight pants, or a low-cut blouse she has no right to complain when men oogle her - that sort of thinking is on the same continium line as the iman's. just not as extreme.

chauvinists and sexists come from all religions.

lady - no tolerance for the intolerant, I like to say... btw, what's your opinion on bird's comments below?

hell - you are preaching to the converted...

bird - as always, the moderate voices are not speaking as loudly...

I knew that was your objection to my previous comments about women dressed provocatively - but there's
a world of difference between rape and ogling... there's also a world of difference between ass cracks and uncovered heads... I'm aware of the old-fashioned "it's her own fault" logic in this country, and it is sick... if you dress provocatively you are not asking to be raped, but you WILL be looked at, and you know it when you put those clothes on before leaving the house...
I think you are chirping up the wrong tree...

I think you are defensive when you percieve any man might be telling a woman how to live... I do not do that, I merely point out things to think about... whether it's hiphuggers or breast implants... I paraphrase you from the other day: "You to be sexy? Be careful what you wish for..." you will not just be sexy to those you wish to appeal to, but to many, many others... and you may get undesire attention - ATTENTION, that is - from undesired parties...

btw, I agree on letting the imam speak... let him dig a deeper hole for himself...

DEFENSIVE? ME????? hahahahahahaha!

my point is that the moderate voices are indeed speaking up - but they are not being as widely reported. do the internet sleuthing. i found moderate voices speaking up quite clearly.

but i have this vision in my head:

an army of voluptuous, curvy and curvacous women (yeah, i know the two words mean the same thing but love the illiteration), wearing slinky, close-fitting, low-cut blouses that show their creamy breasts quite a bit and jeans that ride low on the hips revealing smooth skin, advance on the iman. their arms are upraised, and they swirl above their heads, somewhat like rally rags at a baseball game, their lacey thongs. they walk like models on the runway, boldly, seductively toward the iman.

do they stuff him in a burqa and cover him with a hijab? no, they strip him naked and throw him like meat onto the street. but of course, he is tainted meat and no one will touch him, so he lies there, a miserable, skinny-assed, pruney man with the smallest dick ever seen, cringing in the street, crying for allah and his mama to save him. but mama has tossed her hijab aside and is marching with the voluptous ones and allah - well, allah has decreed that all this happens - it is His Will.

all praise to allah!

bird - I love it... a good friend of mine said back in 2001 that we shouldn't drop bombs on Afghanistan; we should drop Hustler Magazine... it would "destroy" them faster than real weapons could...

Bogs,

Well, I've heard of cluster bombs but never Hustler bombs...
Do you suppose the military can disguise those Hustler bombs as aid packets?

Pete Bogs said...

pres - they will be labled in Arabic: "Muslim halal meal"

Bogs,
I actually agree with most of Bird's comments. I recognize that many of the moderate Muslims disagree with the fanatics, just as many of the moderate Christians in our country disagree with their fanatic counerparts. And I also disagree with people calling for the iman to be silenced or deported: Free speech for everyone!

And while our country has a long way to come in it's thinking and attitudes toward women, I don't think these American attitudes and actions come anywhere near those of the Muslims. And let me emphasize again that I do realize not all Muslims are fanatics. My personal view of the religion, however, is that it is hostile toward women and, in the case of this iman, barbaric. The whole damn thing seems uncivilized to me. And as I stated initially, I have zero respect or tolerance for it.

lady - I agree with birds comments to that affect to - that there are many moderates around... though many Muslim women (in the US especially) don't feel they're second class citizens, it's hard to match up their treatment with that attitude... their female issues part of the very reason they are having trouble assimilating into Western society, here and in the EU... those old-fashioned notions about women don't gel with the societies they are moving into, and there is a culture clash...

I was actually wondering if you agree with bird that my "provocatively dressed women are asking for attention" viewpoint is in the same realm as the imam's comments, though less extreme? I feel I'm just saying the obvious...

LadyM said...

No, I don't think that's in the same realm. Like you said, there's significant difference between ogling and raping. If you go around dressed in revealing clothes you're going to get looked at; and I think that most women are aware of it when they do it. I'm not saying that it's a bad thing--we all want attention.

Thanks for adding something stupid that happened here in your blogland.

The main thing that amazed me that no-one ie no MAN stood up and said indignantly:"How dare you compare me and my sex to animals. I have total control over my sexual appetites and would not dare, as an honourable and caring male, overstep the boundaries of a woman's right to her own body!!!"

I heard Muslim women in hijabs come out and say how disgusted they were and he was wrong. But I didn't hear any men come out(of any faith) and say he insulted them as men and as friends and admirers of women.
(Wellll..except my man of course!!)

peaches - thanks... I was hoping for an OZ perspective here!
