Electoral Dysfunction Down South

The outcome of last week’s presidential election in Mexico is still up in the air, as the close margin of the vote has some parties demanding a recount.

Can’t the Americas get this voting thing right for once?

The disputed election is once again between one very conservative candidate and one very left-wing candidate. It seems we Americans, in the larger, more inclusive sense of the word, aren’t sure what we want to be.

As a Floridian, I know how Mexico feels, and I have a few suggestions for them:

>Declare martial law and round up all dissidents; hey, it worked here in Florida.

>Invite Katherine Harris down there to give the vote over to the conservative. Keep her down there through the '06 US midterm elections - at least.

>Void the election results and declare Al Gore El Presidente for life.

Barring these options, I suggest they get started counting "hanging chaditos."

You have such keen insights, my friend.

El Presidente for life? Umm, not a bad idea. Do you think it well sell in Peoria or Cleveland?

bird - Gore is commonly considered liberal, and I am just humoring the right with that... all Democrats are far too consternative, if you ask me...

jack - they won't care, because he'll be in Mexico!

anytime the left loses it must be a conspiracy. it couldnt ever possibly be that their ideas were actually rejected! the diebolds did it! no, it was the dragon lady harris! no, wait! it was the magnetic force coming off the grey's saucers who are in legion with the consternatives, and finally: bush did it.

I see more than one blogger took this post a little too seriously...

bird - forgot to add, regarding your comments: I was also trying to go for a parallel sentence structure... I'm sure you can appreciate that... ;-0
